The overall theme of the module is fear, and everything surrounding this feeling. A quote that represents this theme, is “Perforce he waited—waited there in the darkness through seeming centuries of such dread as one may know, yet lived to tell.” (Ambrose Bierce). This quote is from “The Boarded Window”, which explores an old man’s traumatic experiences. In this quote, the author writes how a person experiences terror, and how their body reacts to such an experience. Again, the module’s theme is everything surrounding fear. This quote evidently represents this theme as it focuses on this strange emotion, and how it affects us as a whole.

These can be conflicts between each other, the country, or even the environment. The human body is fascinating, and the mind has its own way of responding to different scenarios. In the quote that I chose, there was an emphasis on the feeling of dread. In other readings, other emotions were shown like anger, sadness, and anxiety. These human emotions are natural, and they often drive our actions. In our world, many people are influenced by their fear, and it is a natural occurrence. However, our actions should not be entirely driven by fear, because this leads us to make reckless and impulsive decisions. In my case, I have felt like a caged animal before. My first response was to do something, but I never thought my actions through. This led me to have consequences and other, more serious problems that were necessary to resolve.
