The movie and book,The Giver has similarities and differences. First off, In both the book and movie Jonas becomes receiver of memory. They both had the same main characters,Jonas,Gabriel,Asher,Fiona and the Giver. Another thing they both have in common is that they can’t see actual color,they only see black and white.

Feelings and Emotion Different feelings and emotion are not known in the community within the people. The Giver and Jonas are the only true people that know how to feel the different emotions. The last extreme change is that we have emotions, feelings and we can see color, Jonas’s society is so much about equality that they don 't want anyone to be different or they fear that the people will have the power to chose what they want to do. Today 's society and Jonas’s have some similarities. Such as, in both children are given comfort objects to help them through rough times. Well just like in The Giver all children go to school in our country too.

After reading The Giver, I thought that the book contained four major themes that displayed Lowry’s ideas and concerns. The first theme I found was the importance of individuality and freedom. It showed Lowry’s concerns about the society today. The second theme I noticed was memories/knowledge and wisdom.
In the book,everyone has the same attribute’s but one twelve year old boy named Jonas. Throughout the novel,Jonas has suffer and has been misunderstood. Jonas opened his eyes to the reality of the community. This causes tears,anger,lonely’s,confused,unaware and misunderstanding. “He killed it my father killed it”,Jonas said to himself” (Lowry 188).
Imagine a world where the government controls all choices. The Dystopian novel The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is set in a future where everything is the same. They have the same houses, clothes, and the same birthday. They have no choices or feelings. The society from The Giver would be a negative change from the current society because it limits choices, eliminates feelings, and abolishes color.
Utopian worlds always backfire because people crave their own individuality. In Lois Lowry’s novel, The Giver, the leaders of the community control the citizens by keeping them ignorant and avoiding uniqueness. The Elders of the community try to keep the people from making decisions because they believe that it will make people's’ lives easier. At the age of 12 The Elders assign all the citizens jobs and a young boy, named Jonas, is given the honor of being selected the new receiver. During The Giver the Utopian world that the people live in fails because people naturally crave individuality.
When Jonas is granted a rule, he wonders if he has been lied to for his whole life. Jonas’s new rule that he received was that he can lie” (65). When he receives this new rule it makes Jonas feel like everyone who has jobs can lie and he doesn’t know if he can trust people. Jonas feels proud of himself when the chief Elder had told his whole community Jonas had an ability that they didn’t, to see beyond. (60).
Before Jonas became the receiver he was like every other citizen. A deadpan. Except sometimes he saw flashes of color. Jonas had what he thought were friends
