Tiara Magda Amela, Widyastuti (2014) conducted a research on critical discourse analysis of racism in Django Unchained Movie. Aim of the study was to reveal the way through which the white people as dominant group show their racism and to reveal the way through which powerful or dominant group control the society. Data was taken from “Django Unchained” movie. “Django Unchained” movie contains elements of racism which is done by white people as dominant group. Thus, their data focuses on the utterances of dominant group as exerciser of racism. Critical discourse analysis and speech act theory were used as a tool to analyze the data. Aim of the study was to highlight the saliency of gender as a social category in Sense and Sensibility in British society. It also illustrates the inequalities in the assumptions about women and men that are embedded in the linguistic practices of the heroes and heroines in Sense and Sensibility. Researchers applied the framework of CDA to Sense and Sensibility. Result of the study showed that man and women language differed in terms of the use of adjectives, adverbs, swear verbs. The biggest difference lies in the fact that the proportion of adverbs used by heroes and heroines are quite different. Researcher is going to analyze how linguistics devices have been employed within the text to represent racism in order to influence the reader’s minds. In this research researcher will analyze the racist ideology within the selected short stories of Nadine Gordimer.
Source of Data:
For this research Nadine Gordimer’s short stories collection “Beethoven was one-sixteenth black and other stories” and her other short story “Once upon A Time” has been selected as a data. Her short stories collection contains 14 short stories. Researcher will linguistically analyze her short stories in order to uncover the ideologies which are hidden in the text.
Model for Analysis:
For the present research Hukin’s (1997) analytical tools are going to be used because these tools work within the framework of critical discourse analysis. Hukin’s analytical tools will help us in finding the linguistics devices that are used in order to convey certain ideologies and agendas.
