I’m currently working on an essay and have included two of the three rhetorical appeals Logos and Ethos. The main appeal is Logos, because There is a lot of information and facts. Ethos also, because there is authority that will help back up the claims. My audience is not directed to any individual group it is intended for everyone.
This shows that after this case study, it was established that US Citizens have the right to a K-12 education, one that is equally funded so that all students are learning on a level playing field. For this case study, the Texas Supreme Court established the right for students to receive a public school education Texas citizens have the responsibility to take action against an issue they find unconstitutional, either by voting or joining an interest group.
According to a United States Supreme Court ruling, public schools have the ability to restrict students’ First Amendment rights. This became true in the Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District Supreme Court case when Mary Beth Tinker, John Tinker, and Christopher Eckhart wore black arm bands to protest the Vietnam War. In order to understand Tinker v. Des Moines Supreme Court case one must establish the history, examine the case, and explain the impacts. During time of war in the 1960’s a case from a small town, Des Moines, Iowa, made its way to the highest court of the land, the Supreme Court.
1. What is the issue that the author(s) of this chapter has presented? The issue the author presents in chapter nine focuses on who should receive special education services and how should educators identify which students are to receive special education services. 2.
Pickering’s letter addressed concern over school’s demand of more funds from public and problematic allocation of funds, while Mr. Jackson’s speech affects Cuban exiles’ perspectives of their countries and families. The court held that since “teachers are…most likely to be informed and definite opinions as to how funds allotted to the operations of the schools should be spent”, teachers’ opinions are vital to the public. Thus, they should freely speak on issues substantially involved public concern. In this case, Mr. Jackson should also be
Have you ever seen innocent kids and disappointed parents crying in front of happy smile of other families? That sad image is usually caught in the lottery of any charter school. Ted Cruz said in School Choice Week “ And yet, there are millions of kids in the waiting list for charter school. We should not put our future in the wait list.”
Brinkley depicts the opinion of Chief Justice Earl warren as he restated his words, “we conclude that in the field of public education the doctrine ‘separate but equal’ has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal”
The Court ruled in favor of the Hazelwood School District in a 5-3 vote. “The Court held that the First Amendment did not require schools to affirmatively promote particular types of student speech” (“Hazelwood School District v. Kuhlmeier,” n.d.). Since the paper was sponsored by the school, the school is able to approve what is and what is not published. The papers publishing was limited to the school, therefore, articles were subject to editing by the school and its course requirements. The articles written by high school students is significant in that the students are held to the schools policies and what the school deems as
Logos, the appeal to logic and knowledge, is most commonly used with facts, statistics, or just logical reasoning. On example of Sanders supporting his argument with this appeal is when he cites statistics. In chapter 4, Sanders notes after asking his students how many of their peers cheated it was between 70-90 percent. These numbers create a concrete image in the reader's mind appealing to their logical side that this is the vast majority of his students. Next, the appeal of ethos is the appeal to credibility and authority.
Do you think you can graduate and go to College? Watching dropout nation changes the way I view education. This documentary helps me explain my attitude toward life. The Documentary Dropout Nation influences every paragraph I have written in this essay. When you are reading, this piece asks this yourself this question “Will my essay change what you do in school.”
School choice is the idea that parents should be able to choose which school they want to send their children to, whether they enroll them to private, charter, parochial or virtual schools, or just decide to homeschool them. “Charter schools are our best hope for meaningful change in education. Yet, many parents are leery of charter schools or confused by them.” (“Should all Schools”) Some politicians and teachers believe that school choice takes away money from them since they do use tax dollars.
Basing school funding on property tax leads to unequal opportunities and environments for students, even though the government may claim it is not up to them, there needs to be a drastic change. Currently, taxes collected from the surrounding communities fund public school districts. Public schools get financed mainly by the property tax of the surrounding houses. “Resources available to school districts relied heavily on local property wealth, and property wealth per pupil varied greatly, as it continues today”
Despite the contrasting environment, private school students are no different than public school students. In an online manifesto, If You Send Your Kid to Private school you are bad, Allison Benedikt, an executive editor states, “But many others go private for religious reasons, or because their kids have behavioral or learning issues, or simply because the public school in their district is not so hot”. This proves that private schools are not filled with angels, but rather kids who have behavioral issues and need that extra help. In senior writer and editor John S Kiernan’s, online article, Private Schools vs. Public Schools - Experts Weigh In, Patrick J. Wolf, Ph.D, proclaims, “Private schools also are becoming more diverse, as their enrollments increasingly include minority and low-income students”. Similar to a public school, private schooling have their low, medium and upper class students.
Public school funding Increasing school funding is very important in today’s future American students. Education should be one of the top priorities in the United States to make sure every student has the same opportunity to get the same great education. Increasing public school funding be beneficial for outdated textbooks, lack of technology, and increases more resources for students. These resources would be crucial of generating students of America. These students are the workers, leaders, and inspirations of future America.
Why the school system is bad - Arshia Education is very important for everyone and it will only get more important. Schooling is just plain bad. It used to serve a purpose, like the heart in a person 's body, but now it is basically just boring students more and more. Nowadays at the end of the day, we all just want to go home.
