Argument Essay
In the argument essay “School Choice- An Unwise Option”, Mark Liles writes about how schools other than public schools are unacceptable. Liles says that school choice is not only a awful idea, but a violation of our the Constitution. Liles supports his claim by stating some reasons such as private schools are safer or that parents may not want to pay private schools because the aline with a certain religion. Liles also mentions that one of the biggest dangers of school choice is the power behind large corporations operating the charter schools. The fact that public schools are open to all children of our nation too like special needs children also supports the claim. The author Mark Liles, has created a well constructed argument that effectively proves his claim that voucher and charter schools violate the constitution.
The author uses appeals throughout his essay to enhance his claim. Liles uses all three appeals effectively in his argument to help defend his reasons and provide evidence. For example Liles writes “ According to the NEA “ 85 percent of private schools are religious. Vouchers tend to be a means of circumventing the Constitutional prohibitions against subsidizing religious practice and instruction [NEA]”(Liles 2). This is an example of how the author used logos and ethos. When talking about parents paying for religious schools Liles adds this quote of fact from an official group to add more credibility to his article. The only issue about his
