In the “Children on the battlefield” article written by Marcie Schwartz explains that boys under 18 have served in many wars including the Civil War. They would join by lying about there age, having their parents sign them up, or there teachers would influence the recruiting officer to let them join. Some recruiting officers would look the other way so that they could met their quota. When they were enlisted they had many hard and dangerous jobs to do and also also served on military ships. The boys often were home sick and did not know what they wanted to do with there life.
After reading the memoir Night by Elie Weisel, I wanted to compare this event to a present-day one happening as I write this essay. I decided to compare the people who caused such an event; the Nazi Party; to ISIS (Their full name is Islamic State in Iraq and Syria), a terrorist organization and militant group in parts of Iraq and Syria. Although these groups are very different, they share many common goals and ideals. Although the Nazi Party's crimes will stay branded into our memories forever, ISIS is a growing problem that the United States and other countries are getting more and more involved in fighting against them. I shall now compare the two organizations.

After World War II, veterans came back to the United States and struggled with stigmatized mental illnesses as well as financial and social issues. Throughout his story he talks about the countless struggle of living in a war zone; moving place to place, trying to find a safe heaven for him and his family. Jal states that he “””””””””. Being a child, being able to endure a war, then enrolling in a militia group, all before the age of 18 is heartbreaking. In the beginning and mid part of his life, so far, he saw gruesome scenery such as “”””””.
Mary Ewald’s letter to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was shortly sent after the worried mother found out her son had been abducted in Kuwait.(Carroll, 177) In this letter Mary Ewald aims to convince the reader, President Hussein, that her family has been unjustly affected by the abduction of her son and pleads, “let my son go” (178). In order to convey this message Ewald sides strongly on her ethos. To prove her credibility her writing style, tone, diction, personal anecdotes and character traits are all implemented together to aid in her argument. Knowing that the president of Iraq would not receive letters from everyone and actually give in, Ewald strategically used her past experiences to get through to him.
