Stephen King, the man who incited a fear of clowns for people, is wrong regarding how some of us feel about horror movies. In Stephen King’s essay, “Why We Crave Horror Movies”, he says that we are all mentally ill. We do all have weird things we do, but it’s technically not an illness. In the essay, King relates roller coasters to horror movies because people can get a scare out of it. Roller coasters and horror movies don’t give people the same feeling when it’s over. He states that viewers enjoy watching others being menaced or killed. Watching others get hurt or killed isn’t a view worth watching. Further into the essay, he says that people like watching horror movies to release their emotions. King related roller coasters to horror movies because people get a scare out of it. On roller coasters, it can seem scary before anyone gets on, but afterwards it’s thrilling. Instead, a horror movie gives people nightmares for days or weeks. Roller coasters also don’t show signs of evil or violence. They also don’t create a long lasting fear in a person’s head or heart. But as for horror movies, they create nightmares and scary thoughts in people’s heads. In King’s essay he states “...by the time one turns 40 or 50, one’s appetite for double twists or 360 loops may be considerably depleted.”(1). Some people don’t get tired of roller coasters, no matter the age. Last year when I went on a school trip to Great America, the adults were the excited to ride the roller coasters. When the ride started, they were the louder than most of the people on it. In some cases, some adults still enjoy riding roller coasters no matter how old they may be
