There are several influences that have affected the play of bowling, like engineering and production. These two developments are incredibly important to the advancements of bowling. The engineering and production of bowling balls have improved from wood balls, to rubber balls, to polyester balls that people use today. Also, the flooring of the lanes has improved from wood flooring to synthetic flooring lanes. Both of these progressions contribute to the development of bowling. In the article, “Striking at the Core of Bowling Balls,” written by John Falcioni, the Editor-in-Chief of Mechanical Engineering magazine, describes, “The influence of engineering on the sport of bowling can be seen in the evolution of the sport’s equipment and language” …show more content…

In the early years of bowling, every ball was the same. This is controversial today because different people need different balls, and so it was harder in previous years to fully develop individual skills, and it was tougher to get high scores. Therefore, there was a need for change in the way bowling balls are made. Mullen states, “Advances in technology have brought changes to the equipment we use and lane conditions” (ix). Technology has made such an impact on the sport of bowling because of this idea. It has allowed for bowlers to increase their skill level, and it has made for a greater enjoyment of the game itself. Regarding how the skill levels increase, “Now with the new technology and the new balls, they had made the machines and the lanes better” (Robb). This calls for an easier and simpler way why the advancements of bowling have affected how the bowlers play the game. From the beginning of the sport, changes in the technology have improved for the better. In agreement, “Bowling has made great strides over the last 100 years in terms of balls, their composition, and how they are weighted” (Leiendecker and Yoder). This new technology is such a significance to the sport that has made it become what it is today. With new technology yet to come, one can confer that the sport will ultimately improve its advancements and eventually will have better …show more content…

The first thing to do is think of how bowling has changed from the very beginning. The sport started out as a nine pin game. However, people used bowling as a form of gambling, which caused the sport to be turned into a 10 pin game. Another source of change, “Technology before they had old rubber balls and old plastic balls… so it was a little harder to get those big scores. Now, with the new technology and the new balls, they had made the machines better for the lanes so people didn’t throw perfect games all the time. You can make a shot really easy to make really high scores, and you couldn’t do that in the past” (Robb). The lanes have changed from wood to synthetic. In the beginning you just threw the ball down the lane, but now there are machines that put down different oil patters for even more of a challenge. Another point of change is that the scores had to be written on paper, and now there are TVs and computers that do it much more easily. All of these changes have shown how technology works in the sport. Now there are even more opportunities with the high-tech machines for change in the sport. This generation is all about technology, and so many people are working to create bigger and better changes in technology. With the help of technological advancements, “bowlers will yield higher and more consistent scores and averages” (Carrubba). The main goal to creating
