In the past, people believed that babies could not perceive another individual’s thoughts, however with the passage of time these believes have changed. To help us understand what babies could be thinking and if they acknowledge other people’s thoughts, Gopnik explained how she and one of her students tested this idea by using broccoli and crackers. The student gave 15 and 18 month-old babies two bowls, one with broccoli and the other one with crackers, and the babies showed more preference for the one with the crackers. Can money bring you happiness: many Americans believe that having lots of money can bring happiness? However one writer, Gregg Easterbrook, in his article, “The Real Truth about Money,” promotes that having a lot of money in your pocket doesn’t bring happiness in this world. He writes this article to persuade his audience that money doesn’t bring happiness. Easterbrook begins building his credibility with personal facts and reputable sources, citing convincing facts and statistics, and successfully employing Logical appeals; however, toward the end of the article, he attempts to appeal to readers’ emotions weaken his credibility and ultimately, his argument. In his article, Easterbrook starts his article by showing people how life has changed since the World War II and the Depression eras of life, and then he outlines that people that people spend lots of their time trying to keep up with the norms of life and draws the comparison that people who have higher income have depression or unhappy with themselves.
What made you happy as a child? Children do not think of money as bringing happiness to their lives. The only things that matter are how they perceive pleasure, how much they feel loved, and what brings them joy. As people grow older, they may assume that the more money they have, the happier they will be. How Simon Sinek Persuade Audiences that the Secret to Success is a Reason Why In the TED talk, How Great Leaders Inspire Action, the presenter, Simon Sinek, a “leadership expert,” claims that all great leaders and innovators have one thing in common, they all have a reason why they do what they do. He convinces the audience that his claim is correct through a relatively balanced use of the three Aristotelian appeals: pathos, logos, and ethos. He gives specific facts and examples, to show his audience how his claim has worked for history’s greatest individuals and organizations. Finally, he uses rhetorical devices such as amplification and parallelism to strengthen his argument.
The Ted-Talk, “What It Means to be a Citizen of the World” given by Hugh Evans was seemingly directed towards those individuals who “self identify first” as a “member of a state, nation, or tribe” and therefore are focused solely on the improvement of their closed-community rather than the improvement of the entire “human race”. Therefore, centering his audience at those individuals who remain outside the lines of being a global citizen. The main idea that Hugh draws up throughout his speech is the impact that the actions of a single individual; no matter how small, can have when one acts with the purpose of combating “extreme poverty, climate change, and inequality” on a global scale rather than a local one. In order to do so, Hugh introduces the stories of a few individuals who have been able to impact people that are “not [themselves], not in [their] neighborhood, [their] state, or even in [their] country” and along the way reveals his own journey to becoming a global citizen.
Can Money Buy Happiness? In today’s materialistic world that we live in, the phrase that ‘can money buy happiness?’ is an often asked question. There is no right or wrong answer but only peoples opinions and people always think their opinions are right. Money is an easy way to gain happiness since in our daily lives we need money for food, shelter, and keeping ourselves healthy, which are necessities for having a happy life.
Being rich leads to a stressful life but what doesn’t have problems and not being perfect is what makes us humans in this earth. There is a lot of debate on this matter that money could buy happiness, many people that agree to this lived on both sides for example a singer songwriter started from the bottom just making music but one day being notice and became wealthy. This outcome happens a lot in today’s time with the power of social media, but they could say their life got changed for the better they might be a few bumps in the road, but nothing can’t be fixed over time or putting in more money in which they have plenty of now. People think that if they have money, then they will be happy. For me, no amount of money can buy a person what truly makes them happy. Sure, money is nice but happiness is not about money. I find it ridiculous when people say, “I’m not happy because I do not have enough money.” The way I see it, is that people do not fully understand what it is to be happy before they can have money.
