When he had to drop out so early he wanted to still learn and do stuff so he decided to educate himself and made himself successful by not giving up. When he decided to still educate himself he did not go to school he had to learn everything by himself just to help his parents make money. The author reports,”Yet even without teachers or books, he continued to study the world around him”( page 13-14). This confirms how instead of him giving up he continued to keep learning about him getting some education. One more thing that he had that he was curious about is fixing sewing machines on his spare time.

The short story “Battle Royal” was written by Ralph Ellison, set during the 1950’s racism is very noticeable and you will be stunned by how the blacks are treated.
