The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is a fiction mystery novel written by Mark Haddon 19 years ago. The book conveys the story of a British child called Christopher who struggles with family, mental and social issues. The story starts with the killing of a dog called Wellington, and Christopher tries to investigate who killed Wellington, making his life more confusing with various events. In the excerpt, the author conveys the theme that Christopher can’t process and express emotions because of his autism, and he lacks the skill of prudence. One of the most prominent points explored in the novel is Christopher’s difficulty in understanding and interpreting emotions around him. One other efficient example for Christopher's lack of common sense is narrated in the expert is his response to Siobhan in their dialogue about Christofher’s father’s advanced relationship with Mrs. Shears without letting Christopher aware of it. After Siobhan says it is normal to be sad, Christopher replies as,"But I don't feel sad about it. Because Mother is dead. And because Mr. Shears isn't around anymore. So I would be feeling sad about something that isn't real and doesn't exist. And that would be stupid." In this quote from the excerpt the idea that Christopher only uses mathematical logic and emotionless phrases instead of common sensual feelings can be clearly interpreted by the reader.
