This paper includes a brief summary of the book “The End of Dieting”. This book focuses on the nutritarian diet and provides supporting evidence to back all of its beneficial health claims, while pointing out the flaws of other popular fad diet plans. Also included, is another opinion of the factuality of the diet and its benefits. Book “The End of Dieting” by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. was chosen for the assignment because there are so many diet plans, with different health claims, and this one seemed to offer lots of information regarding the eating habits of Americans and the ever growing problem of being overweight or obese. The standard American diet consists of sugar, oil, processed foods, protein, and dairy. Over time, Americans have seemed to accept a poor health status in someones 50s or 60s is “just apart of getting old”, but this is not normal for our bodies. This is a result of poor or false nutritional guidelines that Americans have been given. Humans over eat because of toxic hunger and emotional eating, and because foods that bad for the body is addictive. Diet fads such as the paleo diet, the wheat belly diet, and the Mediterranean diet are all popular, but have contradicting health statements, according to “The End of Dieting”. Corroboration For many years, there has been a known association with chronic illnesses and diet and lifestyle. The article “Disease Prevention through Diet and Nutrition states, “Obesity comes over time by eating more calories than the body burns. Obesity, in turn, can contribute to the development of many diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea, liver disease, arthritis, high blood pressure, gout, gallstones, and certain cancers” (Stoppler, 2016). Like Fuhrman, Stoppler states that a high caloric diet is the reason for obesity, and obesity has been linked to a number of medical conditions. Also stated in the article by Stoppler, the diet should consist more of low energy dense foods such as fruits and vegetables, rather than high energy dense foods, such as animal products, sugars, and high fat foods (Stoppler, 2016).
