Scott Fitzgerald, the eyes Of TJ Eckleburg are referred to as “The Eyes of God” that watch over The Valley Of Ashes and know what everyone is doing, later being punished for their sins. Literally speaking, it’s a billboard with a pair of eyes with spectacles that is an advertisement for Doctor T.J. Eckleburg the oculist. The first time we see The Eyes Of TJ Eckleburg, the eyes just seem like a plain old billboard with an advertisement in The Valley Of Ashes. “But his eyes dimmed a little by many paintless days under rain and sun, brood on over the dumping ground.” (Pg. 28). In this scene you get an insight of how people depict The Eyes Of TJ Eckleburg, the narrator is explaining how the eyes are faded and old, but also how they gaze with a faint glare while watching over The Valley Of Ashes. …show more content…

“Then at Dr. TJ Ecklesburg faded eyes came into sight [...] I remembered Gatsby’s caution about gas.” (Pg. 129). The eyes reminded Nick of the warning Gatsby gave about gas in which he was implying that the eyes may be a warning about time. Which is why Nick made the connection between Gatsby’s caution and The
