How Communities Shape Goals In life, there are many situations that people find themselves in which have a great effect on the goals they have. In texts such as Elie Wiesel’s “The Perils of Indifference” speech and “The Gathering Place” by Amanda Gorman, examples of how goals change based on different settings and situations can be seen. Wiesel was surrounded by Nazis for a long period of his life. This changed the overall goals of his life to be more centered around standing up for what is wrong and teaching others to do the same. There are many communities each person is involved in ranging from more general to specific. This poem depicts a community that, in unity, can produce great achievements. The main idea presented in this story is that together, a community can do amazing things. In the poem, their community is described as a place “where cultures and languages jive Begin Yellow highlight like seeds”(Gorman 24). This community is a diverse, hard-working one that creates a lot. Being in a community that strives to achieve great goals influences someone's own goals to become bigger. Seeing what great things a community can do when they come together makes a person's dreams bigger. This text is concluded with the message that small communities work to benefit the whole world’s community. This community shapes the goals of those in it by building strong members who carry forth goals of bettering society. In general, this text shows that communities people are in enhance their goals and make them for the better of
