In “The Interlopers,” by Saki, this short story tells how two characters change, why they change, and how their astonishing change affects the story as a whole. In the beginning of the story, it states that Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym are enemies. Although they hate each other, they ironically change their feelings towards one another just before the end of the story.
The enemies start to change in the middle of the story. When Ulrich and Georg become trapped together beneath a large tree, they are forced to speak about their certain condition. Even after this horrible accident, this hatred still remains as they talk about how they will kill each other. Georg declares that “his men will roll the trunk over Ulrich and kill him if they are the first to arrive.” When Ulrich reconsiders their feud and offers friendship, Georg is unconvinced at first. Ultimately, Georg accepts the reconcilitation with Ulrich, and imagines what their new friendship holds in the future. …show more content…

In the beginning, the two have a strong hatred towards one another, but as the series of events unfold, the two come to see the stupidity in the feud that has lasted for so long. They make the verdict to change because they realize that they should’ve been friends all along. Once they have agreed to become associates, they work together to try to get out of the forest by calling their men loudly. In desperate times, the two old enemies found their good side and were able to help one another out in the best way
