The term sociological imagination was invented by C Wright Mills. Mills book is his definition of what he calls The Sociological Imagination. The Sociological Imagination is a way of thinking, opening up your mind to see a different perspective of society and the world we live in. Mills explores The Sociological Imagination in his book and goes onto explain his take on it. We will look at reviews that other sociologists have had on The Sociological Imagination and have a look at Emile Durkheim and the work he done on suicide and how this relates to The Sociological Imagination. Looking at some reviews it is obvious that Mills antagonised many by his way of thinking . Irving Louis Horowitz wrote a book called: C Wright Mills an American utopia. Horowitz believed that Mills tended to engage in self glorification. He states that Mills was an insider writing for an outsider. In Horowitz book he acknowledges a review by Peter Willott a sociologist that he wrote in universities quarterly. who reviewed The sociological Imagination was Peter Willmott he agreed that The Sociological Imagination offered a powerful case but Willmott could not accept Mills style, Willmott thought that Mills was to aggressive on the United states and social science, Willmott liked that the book was well argued and clear. Willmott thought that Mills could take a small piece of evidence and make it big by speculating. My conclusion is that Mills book the sociological Imagination is fascinating, it has opened up my mind to why people act the way they do and choose to do the things that they do, it has given a view of living in the world we live
