Giving up something important for love can give others something better. In “Silverado for Sale” Morgan Wallen sings about his Silverado and how he has to give it up for someone he loves. In the song, Morgan Wallen talks about how much he loves this girl and how there is a ring just down the street he wants to buy. Morgan Wallen can not afford the ring so he wants to sell his Silverado truck to buy one. He has a very special connection to the truck so when he sells it he talks about everything the truck will give someone else if they buy it.
The artist that wrote the song for my music project is called song Simani. I thought I’d tell you about the artist first so you could get a bit of backstory on the song “Music and Friends” or any other songs you have heard by Simani. Simani is a duo band (two members) who focus their music on their Newfoundland and Labrador culture that they were raised in. The band had come together in 1977 with members Bud Davidge and Sim Savory. Sim was a kind hardworking man who never gave up through all the struggles in his life.
Everybody’s buying Fall Out Boy’s new album, American Beauty/American Pyscho. The Fall Out Boy boy band recently became very popular throughout America in 2014 when their song Centuries, started to hit the number 1 music charts. Originally a fairly popular band throughout the Alternative music industry, they quickly accumulated the attention of music listeners all around the world. The boys also began collaborating with singers like Wiz Khalifa and bands like Paramore or Panic!
Written by Stephen Sondheim, american actress Lilla Crawford sang the song “ I know things now” in the musical “Into the woods”. The singer expresses how she had a goal but as she continue her journey, she started to drift away from her goal stating “And he showed me things, many beautiful things that I hadn't thought to explore. They were off my path, so I never had dared. I had been so careful, I never had cared and he made me feel excited and scared.”
In the book “The Color of Water” by James McBride, I chose the song “Slipped Away” by Avril Lavigne for the second chapter. Where James is remembering that his mom would ride a bike around the neighborhood where they lived with her second husband Hunter before he died. This song I think would represent the way Ruth was feeling after her husband died. Because the song says “I miss you, miss you so bad I don't forget you, oh, it's so sad I hope you can hear me I remember it clearly The day you slipped away Was the day I found it won't be the same”.
The song about an Indian, Ira Hayes, was initially written by Peter La Farge, later having Johnny Cash cover it, and therefore making it open. In this song, Peter La Farge is telling a story of one brave Indian who volunteered to fight in the WWII (Battle of Iwo Jima). The storyline goes back and forth between Ira’s emotional homeland (the land of the Pima Indian, Arizona), and the current government which owns the land he lives on. By the end of the war, Ira is “wined and speeched and honored,” but when he turns back to Arizona, “nobody cared what Ira'd done. And when did the Indians dance”, signifying that the loss of their culture, territories, and dignity will never bring their spirit back?
Theme: Friendship Song: “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” – Randy Newman “You've got a friend in me. You got troubles then I got them too. We stick together, we can see it through cause you've got a friend in me.” Justification: This song relates to the relationship George and Lennie had because even though Lennie was always getting in trouble, George was beside him no matter what. Also, when they got to the ranch, Slim said to them that is not common to see such good friends like George and Lennie, who travel together and look out for each other.
1. After viewing the documentary and listening to each song by Rodgers and Hammerstein the song that made the most impact on me was the song “Some Enchanted Evening.” The song consists of very smooth and romantic melodies. Due to that I am a hopeless romantic I really enjoy the song lyrics and melody. The song was very catchy that I ended up singing the song for the rest of my day.
It’s the American Dream to obtain a balanced life: maintaining love, as well as a stable job. However, this is difficult to achieve as some come across the obstacle of needing to only choose one aspect. This same struggle is shown throughout the books The Things They Carried, by Tim O’Brien, as well as Like Water for Chocolate, by Laura Esquivel. In The Things They Carried, Jimmy Cross, being thrust in the position as a leader of his army, is hung up on his girlfriend thousands of miles away. This often distracts him of his dutiful responsibilities to his men.
The song Beds are Burning by Midnight oil is a political song about giving native Australian lands back to the the Pintupi. The Pintupi were one of the very last people to come from the desert. These people began voluntarily moving from the Gibson Desert to settlements around the 1930ss. Many more were forcibly moved during the 1950's and 1960's to the Papunya settlement after they did not leave in the 1930’s. In 1981 they left to return to their own country, and established the Kintore community.
Hip-hop is an influential form of music that displays an artist’s honest and revealing story that many of the general public can relate to. One of the many songs that I can relate to is “Love Yourz” written by J Cole. The song talks about how Cole reflects on the most important things in life such as love and happiness. He realizes that the money and fame didn’t bring him the happiness he desired. To gain true happiness, he needed to appreciate himself and those that love him.
The five song playlist that I chose is Fireworks, Set fire to the rain, The way, Love the way you lie and Firestones. All of these songs relates to the novel in different ways. The song Fireworks by katy Perry relates to the novel Fahrenheit 451 because in this song it is saying if you ever feel Like a plastic bag drifting through the wind wanting to start again. Guy Montag had committed mistakes that he might regretted.
In this paper I will be discussing “American Idiot” by Green Day as a protest song. A protest song, “is a song that is associated with a movement for social change and hence part of the broader category of topical songs or songs connected to current events” (Google, 2015). People who feel strongly towards a certain political view within society create protest songs, and this is the only way they know how to express their opinions. Protest songs can come in many different musical genres such as folk and rock music.
In his novel, “1984,” renowned author George Orwell expands on the extent to which an oppressive regime can affect the lives of people. Orwell's experiences with political turmoil during the Spanish Civil War would eventually evolve into a dislike for communists, fascists, and dishonest politicians. Orwell can be deemed a modern Democratic Socialist who urges people to be literate in language; he argued the mastery of language can reflect intelligence. Orwell warns the reader of the dangers of totalitarianism in 1984, through describing a dystopian future state of Oceania that has absolute control over the thoughts, language, and narratives of society and is characterized by perpetual warfare and government oppression. Orwell dictates the
There have been many protest songs in the United States; the freedom of speech has contributed to powerful music and protest words that are written in song. The song that will be discussed throughout this essay is “American Idiot” by Green day. This song speaks volume about the uneducated “America” and puts emphasis on the destruction that reality television is making on the United States of America. Listening to the unspoken word and read between the lies, for that then you will understand. The song “American Idiot” was released during the 2004 presidential election, where George W. Bush was selected into office for the second term as President of the United States of America (source).
