Jessica Mitford was born on 11th September 1917 in England at a place known as Gloucestershire and died on 23rd July 1996 at Oakland, Calif in the United States. Being the fifth daughter of Redesdale the second baron, she grew up in England together with her five sisters and the brother. She became a citizen of the United States in the year 1939 through naturalization and began her artistic art of writing in the late 1950s.Mitford first published “Hons and rebels “in the year 1960; an autobiography that gave a detailed account of her early childhood, the status of her autocratic family as well as the life of her early adulthood. “The American way of Death” became her second book published in the year 1963. The book brought out an in-depth examination of the unscrupulous and unacceptable practices that were happening in the funeral industry. Being a long-term activist of the civil rights, Mitford published “The trial of Dr. Spock” in the year 1969. The book focused heavily on the pediatricians trail about the conspiracy charges that were taking place in Vietnam during the antiwar warfare (Turner pg. 290). Mitford’s critical examination of the United States prison system came in when she published kind and usual punishment in the year 1973. “American way of Birth” came in 1992 analysing the obstetrical state of United States. Mitford was also an active member of the United States Communist party and her book “A fine old Conflict” published in 1977 gives a detailed account of her experiences as the member.
