Uncle Rock by Dagoberto Gilb is a story about a young man name Erick, who meets his mother’s boyfriend or friends. In the beginning of the story, Erick and his mother is at a restaurant eating his favorite food. As Erick and his mother are eating, a man comes up to them and started a conversation. Erick notices that the man is complimenting his mother on how she looks. When they were talking in the restaurant, Erick thought about the time his mother almost game a man her name because he’ wearing a suit. The story goes on to talk about how Erick goes on the dates with his mom or meets her dates, Erick also notices every time his mom gets a new job she has a new friend or boyfriend. Meanwhile Erick tells Albert this because he know that Albert’s mom does not like his mom. At this moment, the engineer stops talking to Erick’s mom. In this moment of time Roque known as Uncle Rock starts seeing his mom. Albert sees Roque, Erick express to him that Roque is his mom brother. Meanwhile Roque offers them a ride, Albert notices that Erick’s mom is too close to uncle Roque. Towards the end of the story Roque bring Erick and his mother to a baseball game, where Erick catches the baseball. As the game comes to an end, everyone walk to the parking lot and sees all the baseball players walking to the bus. At this point Erick’s sees everyone getting an autographs, he becomes sad because he did not have a pen. A voice came from the bus window and stated “Hey big man”, but Erick wasn’t sure ( para. 11.). He gives the baseball to the players. After that the players are all signing and one players see his mom. Erick recieves the ball and a letter but does not give it to his mother. Its ointment because Erick see men coming after his mother. Every time Erick mom's get a new job the owner is trying to get with his mother. The narrator states " When she worked at a trucking company, the owner of all the trucks told her he was getting a divorce. By Erick seeing the men, it makes him wants something good for his mother. ( para.3). The reader can infer that for Erick praying to God is the only one who can help for something good. Furthermore Erick point of view for praying is that if he prayed then the outcome is like magic. The conflict of this story is man vs. man which is external. The reader can infer that its external because Erick does not communicate with his mother and men.Throughout the story Erick is silence and wants to start talking but he does not know how. Erick wants and prayed for a relationship with his mother, but he does not know how to come around. For Erick coming out of his situation is praying. He's praying for the better. Lastly, the conflict is also internal because Erick wants to give uncle Rock a change but he pulls back
