Douglass succeeded at escaping and freeing himself, while other slaves did not succeed for many reasons. First of all, one of the reasons why Fredrick Douglass succeeded in escaping was because he could read. Sophia Auld was teaching Fredrick Douglass how to read until her husband, Hugh, forbade her to continue.
Learning To Read and Write is an autobiography Written by Frederick Douglass. Douglass was born into slavery, and moved into his final master’s home when he was a young boy. From the start Douglass was giving schooling from his mistress, however this came to an abrupt ending when Douglass’ master walked into a lesson and became furious. In spite of his lessons coming to an end, Frederick Douglass was determined to learn to read and write so he could escape his life of slavery and enter a new found life of freedom. With his determination Douglass was ready to do anything to learn.

Some managed to educate themselves and other slaves which, allowed a man to obtain a good reputation. Life of a slave breaker tells the journey of a man who holds a good name goes by Frederick Douglas. He achieved great skills by escaping slavery. Frederick expresses “How do I express death, I do not know”.

Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey Douglass, later known as Frederick Douglass after escaping slavery, was born in 1818 in a small Maryland county called Talbot. When Frederick was eight years old, his slave owner’s wife taught him how to read, which later helped his escape to freedom. He then became a lecturer for Anti-Slavery in wake of hearing William Lloyd Garrison and Wendell Phillips speak at an abolitionist meeting. Following his publication of “Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave”, he escapes from slave hunters and runs to England.
Frederick Douglass was a slave for a total of 20 years until he escaped to the North on September 3, 1838. Douglass was in the care of his grandparents and then his grandmother abandoned him, leaving Douglass at Colonel Lloyd’s plantation. There, Douglass worked every day at the plantation and in the city of Baltimore, alternating every few months. While at Lloyd’s plantation, Douglass wore a sackcloth shirt, slept on the floor, and ate cornmeal every day. Douglass was put in the care of “Aunt Katy.”

Douglas’s choice of words such as “build” and “repair” imply that people are comparable to machines.

According to Douglass (2014), the slaves were exposed to vices such as inequality and favoritism in behaviors based on originality, economic and social status.
Later on, America further develops with states, more slaves, and less freedom. No one really didn’t speak out about this issue until one man named Abraham Lincoln stepped up. He spoke out talking about how everyone is created equal no matter the skin color. Some people did really agree with Abraham Lincoln and rely on slaves for pretty much everything, like from cleaning to harvesting. That's when trouble starts to occur and America turns to two pieces of a whole.

During that time a lot of slavery was going on towards the African Americans. Africans were considered slaves of the Americans. While a voiceless narrator, Douglass replicates his silence as a slave.

Soon after obtaining freedom, he became a “world-famous abolitionist, author, and orator.”
Frederick Douglass was a highly respected abolitionist, reformist, as well as civil and women’s rights leader. Douglass was apparently born on plantation in Talbot County, Maryland around the years 1816-1818. He dies 77 years later due to a fatal heart attack. According to Vladimir Nabokov, an English professor, the definition of a good writer is “a storyteller, as a teacher, and as an enchanter” (1036). Nabokov further describes the ideal quality of being a deceiver. Frederick Douglass, author of Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, meets Nabokov’s explanation of a good writer in three of the four ways. First of all, Nabokov stated, “every great writer is a great deceiver” (1035).
