Our empire has lasted for 500 years, and we have become the strongest empire the world has ever seen, spanning from coast to coast. But have we stopped to notice the flaws in our great empire? As the decades go on, we have had worse and worse emperors, such as Nero and Colossus. We see insane people taking charge of our empire, and they use violence to keep us under control. Philosophers and experts say that our great empire will fall most likely due to internal conflict. According to Adrian Goldsworthy, in his book, “How Rome fell,” it says, “The real danger lay within the walls of Rome. Goldsworthy maintains that the vicious cycle of political instability, civil war and the frequent assassination of Rome’s emperors and leading commanders created opportunities that the Goths, Vandals …show more content…

Goldsworthy’s book states, “At a basic level the emperors and government officials of the Late Roman Empire had forgotten what the empire was for. The wider interests of the state – the Res Publica, or ‘public thing’, from which we get our word ‘Republic’ – were secondary to their own personal success and survival.” This illustrates the plentiful amount of flaws within our empire. But even that is not all. Adrian Goldsworthy in, “How Rome Fell,” states, “Rome declined, not from a lack of military prowess, but because it fought too many wars, Roman against Roman and then, as a consequence, further campaigns to restore its battered frontiers and ravaged provinces.” If this continues to be our leading issue, our entire system will collapse. Our violent traditions, the things that we are famous for, we be our end. But the worst is yet to come.
