In 1969, Dolores Huerta reached a stumbling block in which she questioned, “How do I stop eleven million people from buying the grape?” (Huerta, Proclamation of the Delano Grape Workers). The essence of Huerta’s question is that she needed to develop a different strategy that would prevent growers from gaining profits from grape sales. Meanwhile, two years into the grape boycott, farmworkers from Delano, California had gained the support for equal rights from political figures and consumers throughout the United States. Before the structured labor society that we live in today, America was a very different working world; one plagued with injustice and grievances from workers across the job sectors. Two organizations, the Knights of Labor and later the American Federation of Labor acted as activists for reform and demanded better standards for working, living, and life for workers. Their strategies and success in achieving their goals were as different as the organizations themselves. Coming from a time of segregation and social divide, the Knights of Labor stood out as one of the most accepting labor unions of the age, which largely accounted for their membership to reach almost 800,000 members during its peak. All workers in a trade were included, regardless of their skill level.
This further encourages the laborers that being nonviolent works and thus fuels their revolution. Continuing on, Chavez reminds the readers that the laborers experience “feelings of frustration” during their struggle for better rights. Drawing the attention of the readers to the line, the aliteration emphasizes the laborer’s feelings. Readers now gain insight on how the laborers feel and wish to support them. This enables the laborer to keep searching for better conditions.

Some of these actions would be creating small strikes, creating slogans heard everywhere like "Eight Hours for Work, Eight Hours for Rest, Eight Hours for What We Will!" or "Shortening the Hours Increase the Pay". , or even creating songs like "the Eight Hour Day". I believe that there is a need to reincarnate the labor movement because times have changed, and there are still weaknesses in work environments today. As mentioned in the NPR article, the minimum wage is at a 50-year low. I feel that with a new labor movement we could improve the livelihood of United States citizens today. If we raise the average minimum wage with the use of a labor movement, people will feel more satisfied with their lives and achieve the american dream. Another thing that could be done in a labor movement is improve the conditions for factory workers, and for workers in warehouses.
