The average professional athlete is paid $2.6 million per year. The average salary in the US is $50,500 a year. That is a difference of almost $2.5 million a year, and college athletes are getting none of that. College athletes should be paid because all the money made goes to coaches, the NCAA, and the broadcasters. In addition, what if a player gets injured how will they pay for it. Also, more rules can be forced on the field. So, college athletes need to be paid to help them in these situations.
Every year the NCAA makes over $870 million for every sport it overlooks. Most of the money the NCAA get (81%) comes from broadcasters and television producers. The coaches get paid $1.4 million. In other words, the coaches and the NCAA making boatloads of money and the players that are making them the money from playing are getting nothing. In spite of this, the average player could be making around $178 thousand a year. He was rushed to the hospital and had a two-hour long surgery. Then Louisville went on to win the national championship. For this to happen, where is all this money going to come from to help pay for his surgery. What about all the other athletes having to go to doctors and hospitals for their injury.
