The crusades changed the world forever by disrupting the middle east. The crusades were Christianity based excursions attempting to spread the love of Jesus Christ through deadly force. These wars took place in the middle east between the eleventh and sixteenth centuries and is known as a mainly Muslim verse Christian conflict. There was a lot of collusion inside the catholic church at this time especially those who organized the crusades, and those who recorded it. These wars are still felt today, and we can see how they affected the middle east and western relations by examining the past. Syria has been completely decimated and millions of people have been displaced. Some have sought refuge in Europe only to be seen as extremists and aliens. This hatred stems from the crusades. The crusades started the animosity between the east and west, Muslims and Christians, foreigners and natives. It has shown up in history that Europeans do not respect other cultures and other peoples. Whether it’s the slave trade, crusades, or imperialism Europeans are fantastic at ruining relationships with other people. Of course, the crusades aren’t the only reason as to why the middle east is not prospering, but it ultimately starts with Pope Urban II advocating for the Christians to take back the holy land. People tried to justify the actions of the crusades by including scriptures and biblical references, but the true reason is clear; greed. European nobles wanted more money and land, the Pope wanted more power, and the people wanted money and salvation. Instead of truly listening to the scriptures and teachings of Jesus Christ the people fell for the devil’s temptation in an incredibly ironic way. This ignorance is still felt today as our two cultures seem to be so segregated when we should really come together as humans one the same earth not looking at our differences.
