Between 500 and 1500 CE, many major trade routes that emerged were experiencing changes. One major trade route, the Silk Roads, experienced many changes that was brought on by the region. However, the Silk Roads still retained some of it’s traditions that had made it a substantial trade route in the first place. The Silk Roads went through many continuities and changes as trading occurred during the Post-Classical era. Continuities included the trading of luxury goods and changes included a variation in security.
As trading on the Silk Roads transpired during the Post-Classical Era, the trade route still preserved many of it’s practices. The original purpose of the Silk Roads still continued, which was the trading of luxury goods. This practice retained because products such as silk, spices, and jewelry still were in high demand. Another continuity of the Silk Roads was the operation of relay trade, This practice continued because major trading points such as Constantinople, Baghdad, and Tashkent still remained even though different empires come and leave the region. An additional continuity of the Silk Roads was the spread of major world religions.

One change that occurred during this period, was the change of many farmers to merchants. This emergence of merchants occurred because many people such as farmers wanted to specialize in trade in order to have a better life. Another change that occurred during the Post-Classical Era, was the variation of security on the Silk Roads. This change occurred because empires such as the Mongols and the Byzantine made the region more unified and decreased thievery. An addition change that occurred on the Silk Roads during the Post-Classical Era, was the idea of personal fortunes. This occurred because many people such as Chinese emperors became wealthy because of trade being done on the Silk
