The 1912 Election was considered an uncommon election during the progressive era due to the many different outlooks of the future of America’s economic and political structure along with social status. This election of 1912 was also considered a revolutionary election that would forever change the United States of America. The significance of this election was shown by how a third party platform could impact America, which mainly dealt with foreign policy. The Bull Moose party was created by the splitting of the Republican party. William H Taft was the republican stand. Woodrow Wilson was the democratic stand and the ultimate victor of the 1912 election and lastly, Eugene Debs was the Socialist party nominee. Despite the fact that this election had four candidates running for election, the real race was between the three progressive candidates, Woodrow Wilson, William H Taft, and Theodore Roosevelt. Democratic Candidate Woodrow Wilson based his ideas around one central thought of limiting the government. Wilson named his party platform was called “New Freedom”. His goals were to break up monopolies, promote small businesses, reduce tariffs, and reform the banking system. Wilson wanted the government to strengthen anti-trust laws. His solution to this was by allowing workers to form unions and encouraging small businesses along with entrepreneurs. By allowing these small businesses to exist, Wilson believed that the competition between them would increase and benefit the American consumers along with the economy.
