Analyzing Dan Gilbert's Two Kinds Of Happiness

As the pressure increase in society, people always blame about their life and they start to ask how to reach happiness. Based on most people’s understanding of happiness, a lot of people put money in the first priority because they can use money to buy what they want. In Dan Gilbert’s presentation, he defined two kinds of happiness ,which are natural happiness and synthetic happiness through a scientist angel. According to Gilbert’s description, two kinds of happiness are created by one emotion of person. People want to own something that they do not have them. Indeed, it reflects the reality in the society, at the same time, it is also the original power to push people to work. However, those two kinds of happiness are total different because people will use different way to reach their goals. Gilbert used McDonald’s case to explain that people can meet achievement through new creation. At the end, he became wealth and also found people’s requirement of hamburger. New creations make people satisfied with their original purpose, on the other hand, it create another benefit in society. Although people need to put much effort to finish their goal, they will have more sense of accomplishment after reaching the goal. For instance, parent always purchase toys for their kids, when they are young. Kid may feel happy and play with toy at that moment. After few weeks, they may ask their parent to buy another toy, even the previous toy is expensive. When kids grow up, they find their own part time job and use those money to buy things for their own. They will pretty cherish that thing for a long time because they put effort on it. They also feel respect with their parents. Though they have same purpose at the beginning, they receive more with synthesis
