The Disingenuous Raven Not only are you your most constant critic but also the most harsh in not just small things but in every choice made in their lives. It is not at all surprising or shocking that the mysterious and unknown raven was insincere towards the narrator and when answering his questions. This ominous bird was the narrator’s grief and sorrow that had come to life. “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe is one of the many unforgettable poems he wrote in his lifetime. You might not even be able to believe it’s really happening. When the narrator lost his wife, Lenore it made him go crazy and he lost his mind. He was talking to himself and imagining things that weren’t there. Once his subconscious created a figure for him to say his thoughts out loud to he got to come to terms with his situation and helped him get better. Even if the bird wasn’t really there and wasn’t really talking to him, he was able to once again feel normal and even if he was sad at first to finally move on from losing his wife, it was good for him in the long run. All he really needed was someone who would listen and talk to talk to him. Even though the raven represented many things throughout the poem, he really represented the narrator and the rollercoaster of emotions he went through. The truthfulness the raven shows is exactly what the narrator wanted and needed, without it he would’ve slipped into his depression state and it would’ve been bad. I highly recommend The Raven to anyone dealing with the death of someone close to them. You can help yourself by finding people to talk to and asking the questions you need to to move on. Death is something everyone has to deal with in their lifetime and knowing how to cope with it before it happens is important for all people.
