“Shadows”(1959) by John Cassavetes represents the way the black try to “pass” for the white. It is notable that Benny and Lelia are light-skinned who are not enough to pass for the white. In this essay, I will examine how the film represents the way of “passing” and compare it to course materials(“Passing” and “Imitation of Life”). First of all, we should pay attention to Leila.
