Analyzing Mr. Brooks Massive Open Online Courses

Although Mr. Friedman and Mr. Brooks both agree that Massive Open Online Courses will change the way education is introduced to future students, we can see that these two authors address the issue from two completely point of view. While Mr. Brooks' article addresses some of the issues that online learning most deal with before becoming the next education platform, Mr. Friedman optimism present us Massive Open Online Courses as the future of a low cost education for everyone. I agree with both of them, the optimism of a possible future where education is good and cheap seems to be just logical. However, I can also agree with Mr. Brooks; some of the challenges must be address in order to create a more comprehensive education approach. There are many changes happening around the internet, but one of the most important among them is Massive Open Online Courses. Technology has created a window of opportunity to change the way education is introduced to students. Because students and companies feel that there is a disconnect between education and work opportunity, many feel that MOOCs will be able to provide that needed knowledge. …show more content…

Friedman shows us his optimism about Massive Open Online Courses; "there is one big thing happening that leaves me incredibly hopeful about the future, and that is the budding revolution in global online higher education." In one of his interviews, Mr. Friedman presents us Coursera, an online education platform that went from 4 universities and around 200,000 students to over 80 universities and more than one million students within a year. These are some impressive numbers. The growing number of institutions supporting this online platform is what Mr. Friedman refers as the education revolution.
