Analyzing Mr. Fisher's Poem 'Erik Fisher Football Dream'

The theme of the poem is never giving up and it portrays Mr. Fisher being resilient about the “Erik Fisher Football Dream.” Mr Fisher in this poem is seen to be as the “man in the shadows” as he is always lurking behind Erik trying to make his dream come true. The tone of this poem is obsession and almost mysterious. Throughout the piece it is conveyed with words such as “pointless vision the man would not let go of” and “determined to make the delusion exist.” This provides the tone of obsession with the connotation of the words. This particular theme was chosen because we thought it would be more of a challenge writing about a different kind of resilience. This is because, throughout his life, he never gave up trying to find the real reason he has glasses. Another reason is, when Paul Fisher was kicked of the Lake Windsor Soccer Team, he did not just give up soccer. Instead he convinced his parents to send him to Tangerine Middle so he could join the soccer team there. The evidence that justifies our findings regarding Paul would be “the devil masked with an angel's smile.” This provides information on how Paul Fisher views his brother Erik because he acts like a hero in front of an audience but to Paul he is the criminal. The tone of this overall story influenced the word choice because we wanted to make Mr. Fisher seem obsessed and resilient about the “Erik Fisher Football Dream.” The figurative language we used to show this was comparing Mr. Fisher to titanium because titanium never breaks. Furthermore, we used words like determined and resilient to make the tone more blatant.
