Mastery Assignment 2: Literary Analysis Essay Lee Maracle’s “Charlie” goes through multiple shifts in mood over the course of the story. These mood are ones of hope and excitement as Charlie and his classmates escape the residential school to fear of the unknown and melancholy as Charlie sets off alone for home ending with despair and insidiousness when Charlie finally succumbs to the elements . In this story, this premise is realized, and the result is nothing short of astounding. Humans aren't able to change time, if they could, disaster may ensue. In Ray Bradbury’s short story, “The Sound of Thunder,” the main character, Eckles, is murdered because of his own stupidity, the accumulated anger of his safari guide, and the effects he causes in this alternate timeline he arrived in. Eckels made very poor decisions while he was out on his safari, mistakes that would never be forgiven.

Eckels was very rich man who did not use his money wisely, therefore he did everything to please himself. Being scared resulted in one of many ways that Eckels was killed. The theme of Ray Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder" is enhanced by his use of foreshadowing throughout the story. The story follows a man named Eckles on his journey to the past on a hunt for a real dinosaur. As the events in the past unfold, Eckles ultimately alters the future forever by taking a small step off the Path. The path is there to make sure the time travelers do not affect the future. Unfortunately, Eckles learns the true consequences of his actions when he returns to a changed future.

Each is used to place the setting and feel of the story in the readers’ minds. Imagery is a craft move that was used to detail important areas in the story and help sell the scene Bradbury is creating to the reader. This is used to build a mood; one in particular is suspense.
Ray Bradbury uses entertainment’s effects of numbing and disorientating as a way to show imagery on page 45 in Fahrenheit 451. As Montag finished watching the dialogue among characters on the three screen wall, Montag heard the immense sound which sounded like “A great thunderstorm of sound” (45). Bradbury uses this description of sound to resemble the strength of the sound that was being played all around, as well as music being sung or played by a band or choir Montag. It also gives the image of thunder and it’s vast sound when it rumbles in the sky. Moreover, when Montag is trying to recover from the effects of the three video walls, he felt like “a victim of concussion” (45).
