Kien La WR 201 Prof. Peters August, 1 2014 Movie analytical Her is a comedy-drama movie mixing a bit of science fiction background, it was written and produced by Spike Jones in 2013. Her was chosen the best film of 2013 at the National Board of Review, it earned total five Academic Awards to Spike Jones. He should be proud of it. This movie is about Theodore, who falls in love with computer software. It's called operating system (OS) with a sweet female voice and personality, her name is Samantha. The interesting thing about this film is how the system develops her own emotion through the stories that Theodore has shared with her every day, and that emotion is getting stronger. Spike Jones and his team try to figure out how to build a future feel like the present, so the movie would bring the audiences into the familiar world. "It's not science-future, it's science-present." After watching the whole movie, audiences have not seen any fancy technology or big huge machines or even some modern cars. "Part of the reason we avoided cars is because we wanted to avoid street scenes in general." said by K.K. Barrett. So when people see those street, they are able to recognize them and author does want it happens. This movie is not about things, it's about love, and it just has future background, therefore Spike Jones tries to make clean setting. If he adds to much futuristic stuff, the romantic scene would be fade away. He wants his audience pay attention closely to the character by using more close shots so people are able to see emotions of the characters clearly. To make the relationship between Theodore and Samantha feel real, Spike Jones does not want to show the device often such as cell phones. Instead of holding the phone all the time while Theodore is talking to Samantha, he just put a little thing in his ear and start talking. It seems like he is having a conversation with a person in front of him. There is a scene about Theodore is walking alone outside under the frozen weather, and he sees a broken tree is surrounded by many healthy trees. This scene makes audiences feel coldness, loneliness and sad for Theodore. At the end of the movie, there is physical representation of Samantha has shown up such as the back, the footages, but not the face. Spike Jones takes out the whole front body of Samantha on purpose to let the audiences imagine Samantha for themselves. Theodore has to fight his loneliness by himself because there will not be Samantha by his side
