In order to find happiness and love, you must be able to be open to change. If a person is not open to change then they will not be able to compromise when they find someone to love. In the story ‘’Shells’’ by Cynthia Rylant the two main characters must change in order to find happiness and love. Michael begins the story as a lonely kid who needs a connection with someone or something. In the story Michael lost the two most important people in his life, therefore had to go live with his Aunt Esther who was content living alone. The story says, ‘’Oh, he was lonely. This shows that Aunt Esther doesn’t acknowledge Michael which makes him feel more sad and alone than he already
