Analyzing Yummy's Story

Yummy Essay I think we have always had a fascination for gangs and gangsters, and I think we always will. (Ross Kemp) This quote is about how people look up to gang members. This relates to G. Neri’s graphic novel Yummy. The main character wants to be big and bad like his idol Al Capone, he also idolizes the BD’s in his neighborhood. Yummy is innocent because he had no guidance in his life and it isn’t his fault the way he ended up. I will talk about personal experiences of my life that are similar to his. “His daddy was in jail for drugs and I heard his mama had been arrested 41 times for drugs and prostitution. They made me into the person I am today. I am going to tell you how my life and Yummy’s is different. In Yummy’s short and sad life, he had no choice but to be in the streets and he had no guidance in life. He didn’t have much of a choice in life which made the the media rag him for it and they have no right to do that because they didn’t know what he went through. My parents taught me not to judge a book by it’s cover and that is what the media is doing. You can’t call a person a killer until you know them and understand what they have been through. it helped me improve my relationships with people and helped me make new friends. I even made friends with people that are usually out of my zone. I can relate this to the Disney movie “Tarzan”. Tarzan like Yummy had no guidance in his childhood because his parents got killed by tigers, so he becomes a monkey. Like in the Tarzan example, Yummy turns into the “next Al Capone”, when actual people find Tarzan, he learns about the real world and becomes the person everyone loves still to this day. Meanwhile Yummy dies because when he finds people, they stab him in the back and make him look like a monster in front of a whole nation. Now, I will end this in
