The Greeks were one of the top developing civilizations among the other early eastern civilizations. The Greeks were extremely advanced in developing their culture due to their strengths in farming, warfare and their luminaries. The Greeks farming was advanced due to the primary fact that the farming leaders knew how to grow specific crop that other civilizations were not yet exposed to. The Greek civilization also knew how to live off the land and survive independently. This was an advantage they had over other early eastern civilizations. The Greeks were not dependent on any civilization for food and supplies. The Greeks invented many things that are still used today, this is just another reason of why they were so advanced and able to survive independently. The Greeks created things like the water mill, the odometer, the alarm clock, maps, the Olympics, and many other extraordinary things. The alphabet was created by the Greeks and is the most used thing from them today. All of these great abilities to survive and thrive independently are what allowed the development of the powerful Greek civilization.
There is much debate about whether the Greeks civilization was more heavily influenced by some sort of Greek “spirit” or geographical factors. When talking about Greek “Spirit they are talking about the Greek god and goddesses. The Greek gods looked much like people and acted like them, too, only they were taller, handsomer and could do no wrong. The gods and goddesses lived on top of Olympus, a mountain so high and steep no man could climb it and see the shining in their palace. Some near eastern civilizations may consist of Egypt, Mesopotamia (Sumer, Babylon, etc.), and Minoan civilizations. The most similar civilization to Greece is Rome. As I earlier said, the people of Greece were very connected to the Greek gods and goddesses. This helped Greece thrive due to the motivation of the “spirits”. Rome, another eastern civilization close to Greece, also had gods and goddesses. This was something that supported the growth of the Roman empire too. Although, the roman gods and goddess were known by different names, they contributed to the civilizations in the same aspect. The Romans attacked their neighbors, to gain more land, like the Greek’s but did it in a different way. The Greeks were also similar to Egypt. Even though the Ancient Egyptians and Greeks had the different gods and temples for worship it is clear that they were created for the same function and goals. The Romans and Greeks were similar in the way they both laid the foundation to vast number of important things such as religion and architecture, which are used to the present days, and our society should thank them for that. I believe that the Greek civilization was just simply different than the other near eastern civilizations. They had some of the same religion, agriculture, and daily lifestyle concepts as each other.
