Watching the video of Anderson Cooper with the Schizophrenia simulator did not have much of an effect on me. They have similar videos during commercials on television and on Hulu. There are always different simulators for migraines and other mental illnesses being shown on Facebook and other social media. I am aware that schizophrenia is an awful debilitating disease and due to some advanced military training I can relate more than most people can, but it still does not compare to what a person suffering from this disorder has to go through on a day to day basis. Cooper took time to do a piece such as this to help the Schizophrenic community. Mr. Cooper has done some amazing pieces of high profile stories to include Hurricane Katrina, Chicago Police Brutality, Problems in Haiti and other stories that many stations were covering at the same time. He has won many awards but, still found time for stories that will not progress his career. For a couple days in the military I had to listen to babies crying on a loop along with chants on loops. The baby crying was easily ignored, but the English voice made it impossible to think. I would try to go to my happy place but the English words would encompass my ever attempt at a thought. Being in the military and working with people who have had all sorts of experiences and work with children with Significant Support Needs I have not become numb but the only thing that surprises me is how well people can handle problems that I can’t even contemplate dealing with. Like everything in this world it only the bad examples seem to make the news. I have met so many lovely, friendly dogs but they are never on the news it is always the ones who bite kids’ faces off or are let loose and terrorized neighborhoods. It is the same with almost everything on the news to include schizophrenics and I believe Anderson Cooper could have mentioned that in his report. He could have talked about how many schizophrenics there in the United States and how many of
