In chapter nine “Andre Trocme”, Gladwell describes the important of limit of powers through France’s powers to Le Chambon. France was undercontrolled by Germans at that time. They collaborated to harsh and to send all the Jews to internment camp; however, there was a village Le Chambon didn’t want to obey and disagreed with what French did. All the people in Le Chambon helped to hide all the Jews to a safe place. They used their own strategies and experiences to help the Jews. There are two words I think is the most important words are “authoritarian” and “humanitarian”. The first word is authoritarian. We can use this word as a noun or an adjective. The second word is humanitarian. This is totally the opposite word with the word authoritarian. Humanitarian means concern with or seeking to promote human welfare. We also can use this word as a noun or an adjective. Gladwell uses this word to describe the people in Le Chambon that they were willing to rescue the Jews from the internment camp to another safety place; the people of Le Chambon and Andre Trocme are humanitarian. The theory of the underdog can be applied to Andre Trocme and the people of Le Chambon. Gladwell describes Andre Trocme and the people of Le Chambon as the underdogs. They are small; they have no power to against the Germans and French. They seem to have no chance to win in this battle; however, the underdogs again win over the giants. The underdogs as the Andre Trocme have nothing to lose; things they have is their own wits, experiences and strategies. They turn their disadvantages to advantages. The people of Le Chambon hide all the Jews in a safe place that the French and German never find out. They use their own experiences from their background and inherit from their ancestors.
