The book Frindle, by Andrew Clements takes place in Westfield. The main characters are The theme of this book is that believing in yourself is one of the most important things to be able to accomplish your goals. A boy named Nick is full of ideas and wants to make his fifth grade fun by using them. In the end he learns that if he really wants something, he must keep tackling his obstacles or else it won’t work.[/ Before Nick does anything, he needs to come up with a big idea which will change a lot. In the book the author states, “Taking a deep breath, Nick began. “Well, the first thing I learned about the english dictionary-” Mrs. Granger interrupted”(23-24). This shows that Nick is brave enough to try to waste time in the class by giving an oral report. Everybody knows Nick is trying to waste time so they are willing to listen to his boring report about the dictionary so that they don’t get homework. Granger’s letter from ten years ago when he is in college. In part of the letter that Mrs. Granger wrote the author says “ If you are reading this letter, it means that the word frindle has been added to the dictionary”(98). This defines that Nick was always confident of what he was doing. One can tell he reached his goal even if it doesn 't say it directly because he had always wanted that frindle gets into the dictionary and it did. Furthermore, Clements states that Mrs. Granger had been rooting for frindle the whole time because she helped it by going against it. This piece of evidence represents that Nick is smart because he figured out the situation. This represents that he is brave because he actually studied the letter which shows confidence because later he sends a letter back to Mrs. Granger with a pen.
