Andrew Jackson was an autocrat during his presidency. The reasons are based on the Indian Removal documents, the Spoils System documents, and the National Bank documents. Andrew Jackson was an autocrat in the Indian removal documents, because he originally supported the moving of the Indians from their land. Indian Removal document 1 showed that most of the Indians had to move across 4 states or more. Spoils System document 2 states that Jackson said that he doesn’t really value experience and that nobody has a seat saved specifically for them. He is an autocrat here because he contradicts himself by saying that nobody has “right to official station than others”. Spoils System document 3 stated that Jackson’s friend Van Buren tried to warn him that choosing Samuel Swatwout was a bad idea, but he didn’t listen. So, in the end Samuel stole $1,222,705.09 and Jackson laughed. This shows he is an autocrat, because he refused to listen to his experienced friend but listened to an early follower. Andrew Jackson was an autocrat in the National Bank documents because he was ignoring people and making people turn against each other. The National Bank Controversy document 1 showed Jackson holding up a veto, standing on the ripped up Constitution (the document that is supposed to protect our rights), named “King Andrew the First”, and had an eagle (our national symbol) statue as a chair
