How democratic was Andrew Jackson? Andrew Jackson was the 7th president of the United States; he was elected at the age of 61. He was born on March 15, 1767, and was raised in the North End border of South Carolina. He didn’t grow up wealthy and he didn't have a parental figure to help him through his struggles. While Andrew Jackson was growing up he wanted to become tougher because he had no parents so at the age of 13 he enlisted in the military while he was in the military he got seriously wounded by a british officer who slashed with a sword.After Jackson was slashed he was saved by prisoner exchange, after he was saved shortly jackson's mother passed away. He was also labeled as an American hero because of his contributions to the war. After Jackson’s political success, he ran for the office in 1824 against John Quincy Adams, William Crawford, and Henry Clay. In this election no candidate had received a majority of electoral votes which led to the House of Representatives being chosen. After this incident Jackson started calling this election “the corrupt bargain”. Why Jackson was calling it this was because it was stated that “ Clay traded his electoral votes to John Quincy Adams to ensure that Jackson did not win and received the position of the state secretary”. Jackson spoke out for the people raging that their voices weren't heard; after this outlash the people soon started to ask the question; how democratic is Jackson? After Jackson lost the election he became determined to create a new era of democracy in America.
