Andrew Jackson's presidency was considered by many an American Revolution. By allowing suffrage to the poor, Jackson gained the support of the "common man". This was very important in the election because the common man controlled 75% of the votes. By gaining this support Andrew Jackson became the president of the United States of America. Many U.S. citizens and other people visiting the United States believe that suffrage comes with many pros such as allowing the majority of the country to vote, while others believe that it comes with many cons such as allowing uneducated people to elect the leader of the country.
Andrew Jackson during his time was considered a very patriotic politician he hated the rich, he hated the Indian, and loved the idea of slavery. It has been said that he grew up not educated and had a bad up bring but still managed to get to a high political suture. Jackson at one point was general and had a very decorated portfolio, which made sense he would become president, Andrew was most well know for “The Battle of New Orleans” where Andrew Jackson, prevented the British Army and General Edward Pakenham, from seizing New Orleans nearing the end of that war.

In his tenure as the major general, he led American forces to various victories. He commanded the US forces in a five-month campaign against the Creek Indians and worn the war in 1812. In mid-1814, Jackson led his forces yet to another victory over the British in New Orleans battle.
During the 1820s, Americans began to get a large and growing say in politics. This was the time where many people could vote, and their votes actually mattered. Because of this, many common people would vote for Andrew Jackson. Many believed it was time for a rough, “self-made” man to be president of the United States. Jackson represented the common people and related to them, and he also solved the national debt issue along with providing more lands for Americans.
A British author, Harriet Martineau, describes the United States as a country where “every man in towns an independent citizen; every man in the country a landowner” (D). She would be correct if she meant every white man. Under Jackson’s rule, the property requirements and tax paying requirements for voting were lowered, so more white males could vote. Jackson increased white male suffrage and advocated equality for all white males. From a Jacksonian perspective, Jackson promoted political democracy and supported the Constitution.

It all began where he was born and raised in waxhaws. Waxhaws was near the North carolina and South carolina border. It was a small area, but jackson got through a lot of tough times in that town. Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 in Waxhaws.

He ran for president four years prior and lost to John Quincy Adams, however, Jackson came back and ran a second time for president in the next election and redeemed himself by defeating Adams and taking his spot as president. Andrew Jackson came from poverty and worked his way to the top, becoming a young politician by 1812. In 1812 a war broke out between Britain and the United States. Jackson showed great leadership skills during this time and earned widespread fame as a military hero.

When some retrospect the essence of Jackson, they would confirm that he is accurately known for representing the rights of the common man, and for being at the forefront of our modern democratic party. On the contrary, others will condemn this once so ordinary, “common” man for possessing an insatiable crave of power that was occupied within this insidious prime minister. Jackson revealed his underlying intentions through his colossal aggregate of slaves, serving as the basis of the Trail of Tears, and his overabuse of the Spoils System.

Jackson’s presidency impacted democracy, through his use of the veto power, and his claim of Clay creating a “corrupt bargain”, which is not a turning point for a rise in democracy despite him giving white male suffrage. This was based on the fact that Jackson did not hail from a wealthy or “elite” background but from the working class western state of Tennessee.
