Andrew Johnson’s was born in Raleigh, North Carolina and was known as the son of illiterate parents, until he move to Tennessee where he worked as a tailor and collected a fortune in land, then he built a career in politics. Andrew Johnson’s was the Vice President at the time Abraham Lincoln was President. He ran with Lincoln on the Union Party ticket in 1864. Unfortunately, Lincoln got shot on April 15, 1865 and died. However, President Andrew Johnson succeeded to the presidency upon Lincoln's death. Therefore, in less than two weeks he became president being a democrat all his life. Andrew Johnson’s fought for the states’ rights and he was in favor of the colored and against the white race. He wanted to abolish slavery on the Thirteenth Amendment and he did since it became part of the Constitution on December 1865. Presidents that were raised by low-mid income families tend to know the necessities of U.S citizens since they are more aware of the citizen’s needs. But for some reason they don’t get to be successful at times because most of this presidents that are not wealthy are democrats, in contrast to the wealthy Presidents are part of the Republican Party.
