It is shown through Andy’s experiences, his trial, the way he is treated by guards, and Norton's corrupt ways. King delivers a great message in this novella about how corruption and Injustice are prominent in prison settings and cannot be avoided, even by someone as smart and calculating as Andy. King could also be saying how Justice only comes to those who are willing to put in the effort to achieve it, and even then it is never guaranteed. I think he wants us to understand how random justice can be, and how, even when things are unfair, there is not always lot you can do about
In Stephen King 's "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption," a man known as Red tells the story of Andy Dufresne. The authorities arrested Andy for a crime he did not commit subsequently, he ended up in the Shawshank penitentiary with Red. Red, an astute prisoner, described how prison life could take away all hope of surviving on the outside, but for some reason, it did not take Andy 's hope. With hopefulness being an odd trait for a prisoner, it was no wonder that Red was always pondering as to how Andy could stay hopeful for so many years. His seemingly endless pondering would cease when Andy broke out of jail in a hole he had dug through the wall.
During Andy’s arrival to the penitentiary, he seemed like he was in distress and in disbelief that he was going to spend the rest of his life incarnated. The moment when Andy was being shackled he knew at that moment that he lost all of his rights and freedoms. When he was in society he was deem with freedoms such as expression, liberty, speech, etc. but now they are taken away. An example of a scene would be when Andy and the other new inmates were force to listen to the guards and do what they were told.
It is the smallest of actions which create the most hope. Andy, being one of the very few sources of hope for those in Shawshank. He was clearly more optimistic than the rest and he was a lot smarter too. It was when Andy locked himself in a room and turned the music of Mozart on. Once Andy witnessed that his dedication within the prison was so harshly suppressed, Andy knew it was time to dedicate his life in other areas for “Whatever mistakes [he] made, [he’d] paid for them and then some”.
The Shawshank Redemption is a 1994 American drama film, by Frank Darabont, that tells of Andy’s journey. Andy is an accomplished banker, who was incarcerated at Shawshank prison for a crime he states he didn’t commit; the murder of his wife and her secret lover. The film focuses on his dramatic transformation from the moment that he was incarcerated until he eventuates his own freedom from Shawshank, due to the corruption of the guards by abusing them physically and verbally and also killing the inmates for no apparent reason. Andy also received special privileges as he was helping the warden with laundering money. The privileges that Andy received were being able to work in the warden’s office and to build a library for the rest of the inmates.
The main theme of the film is the power of hope. Hope, more than anything else, drives the inmates and gives them the will to live. Andy’s sheer determination to keep his sense of self-worth and escape from Shawshank keeps him from dying of frustration and anger in solitary confinement. Andy goes about making this hope a reality by meticulously tunneling through the wall every night. In the film Red notes that when Tommy says he can prove Andy innocent it gave Andy that extra hope he needed, and Andy’s hope ended up rubbing off on the other inmates.
He stepped out the bus walking in between the prisoners. The prisoners were shouting in front of him to scar him and make him full of fear. On the side of that there were some guys who were betting on how would Andy become after a short time in the prison. Red the only guy who can penetrated look over him, he can see the hope that Andy can create through his sadly and broken face. A little conversation happened between Andy and Red he warn him about what going to happen for him from a bad guy in the prison.

This is proven in the novel Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson which is a story about an African American man named Walter McMillian, a death row inmate, who was falsely accused by a white man of a federal crime but still paid the price. Walter’s lawyer, Bryan Stevenson, didn't stop working until Walter, and over 2,000 other falsely accused death row inmates were released. In Just Mercy hope is a necessity for the overall success in the case, because it reduces the feeling of worthlessness, improves the quality of life, and provides a sense of happiness.
