In some of Poe’s short stories, the narrator vowed revenge, but he usually got caught, so he ended up getting executed. In Poe’s short stories, the theme “Anger can lead to bad mistakes” is shown through plot, character, and conflict. In Poe’s short story, “The Tell-Tale Heart,” the story clearly demonstrates that anger can lead to bad mistakes. The young man is mad at the old man’s eye, so he killed the old man. “All a dull blue, with a hideous veil over it, that chilled the very marrow in my bones.” (83) The young man is disturbed by the old man’s eye. This quote shows that the young man has anger towards the old man’s eye, and he kills the man. The next quote is “But the beating grew louder and louder…” (83) This quote shows that the young man is angry and guilty for killing the old man. The protagonist in “The Cask of Amontillado” is Fortunato, who gets murdered by the antagonist Montresor.
