Animal cruelty is charged only as a class A misdemeanor. There is no reason for animal cruelty to have that low of a charge. In about five years they are able to drop the charge off their record. But why is child abuse such a higher charge than animal abuse? That's because ones an animal and another is a human. Those people have stated that they feel as if animals don't have feelings and that they should not have the same rights as humans. An anonymous person from debate.org has stated "Animals aren't people. Humans are killing humans as we speak right now. Why are we focusing on beings who aren't even obligated to follow our law? If you were that animal, being beaten, having hot wax poured on your back, deliberately having your legs broken, you would want animal cruelty to have the same charges as child abuse. Not just a misdemeanor. Even after they are charged for animal abuse they can go out and buy another animal. Unlike child abuse, you are taken away from all children and are not aloud to be around
