Animalist Party of Animal Farm and Communist party of the U.S.S.R: A Satirical Allegory

The novella Animal Farm was written by George Orwell in 1945. It is a satirical allegory for the Russian Revolution as well as the rise and fall of the Soviet Union. It follows the story of three pigs coming to power on a farm while claiming to create welfare for all the animals on the farm, but they end up conveniencing only themselves alone. In Animal Farm, George Orwell represents the tyranny of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union through the pigs by having both of the parties share similar characteristics.

For example, the quote “It had come to be accepted that the pigs, who were manifestly cleverer than the other animals, should decide all questions of farm policy, . . . ” (p50) illustrates how the pigs presented themselves as cleverer than the other animals, which is similar to how the situation on the farm was when Mr.Jones was in power; there was one or a group of individuals who were cleverer than the others and made the decisions for everyone on the farm. This contradicted the whole idealogy of Animalism, which was that all animals were equal, and made it seem as though all the other animals on the farm were inferior to the pigs. The same situation happened with the Soviet communist party. An example of that would be the laws that they were creating, and how they were similar to when Russia was ruled by a Monarchy. The quote “The regime maintained its political power by means of the . . . . personality cultism, . . . . and persecution of specific groups of people.” (Human rights-Ukraine and the Soviet Union) shows us that the leaders of the communist party of the Soviet Union were as cruel and oppressive as Tsar Nicholas, and
