Squealer instills fear in the animals when he asks, “Surely, comrades, you do not want Jones back” (Orwell 17). Squealer exploits the animals’ fear of Jones’ return to make them obedient to Napoleon’s rule. Thus, by exploiting the animals, Napoleon, who represents Stalin, maintains power by employing cruel propaganda. Although Napoleon’s treatment of the animals was identical to Jones’s, Orwell emphasizes that humans are savage; gaining power at the expense of others demonstrates evil. Furthermore, there were "executions" to the point that "a pile of corpses" lay next to Napoleon, and the air reeked of “the smell of blood” (Orwell 25).
Revolutions Are Not Worth the Time A revolution can be defined as a forceful overthrow of the government or all those in favor of a new system that will change a society. Revolutions are often times harsh and can really make or break any society. Revolutions take a numerous amount of time and effort and in the end, it sometimes makes things worse, not better.
Napoleon also uses manipulation to gain and maintain a firm control by changing the Commandments for the farm in ways that work to his benefit. Squealer, Napoleon’s propaganda department, Keeps the farm animals believing in Napoleon by describing what they hear and see to make it seem harmless. Using effective tactics of fear, convincing propaganda, and manipulation, Napoleon gains and maintains control of Animal Farm. “Animal Farm” has corruption and equality in a way the animals try to succeed and achieve a goal to make the farm better. Power corrupts in “Animal Farm” because the pigs have a goal which is working together and helping one another.
Squealer manipulates the animals, “I trust that every animal here appreciates the sacrifice that Comrade Napoleon has made in taking this extra labor upon himself. Do not imagine comrades that leadership is a pleasure...it is a deep and heavy responsibility” (Orwell 50). Napoleon makes squealer tell all the animals that Napoleon has

In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, a major theme is that when someone is in power, they just want more and more of it. At the start of the book, the animals overthrow Mr. Jones, and the pigs take control of the farm. They have 7 fair commandments, including all animals are equal. Just like many governments, the ones who start in power are able to make the people they have control of think that things are fair. But little by little, the pigs take more and more control.

In Animal Farm, George Orwell demonstrates that education is a powerful weapon and is a tool that used to take advantage of the innocent. The pigs are the first animals to recognize the value of education and use it to their advantage. When they reveal that “they [have] taught themselves to read and write” (9), it shows that they have recognized the value of education and have kept their knowledge a secret from the other animals for a reason. Through education, the pigs intend to gain and maintain power to rule the farm. Once the pigs establish power, they use their smarts to manipulate situations in their favour.
One of the numerous themes apparent in “Animal Farm” was rules and order. First of all, the animals decide, after the pigs learn to read and write, out with the old rules and in with new ones. They (Napoleon and Snowball) first start by changing the front gate from MANOR FARM to ANIMAL FARM (Orwell, 1946, p. 32). This is also supported in chapter 2, when the animals reduce the principles of animalism to the seven commandments which could be read from thirty yards away (Orwell, 1946, p. 33).
Education is an important part of life that we are born into. We improve our lives with it and it takes us to the places we dream of. We are lucky to have free education and sometimes people don’t take advantage of it. Education is something you should learn from and not throw away in the trash; it doesn’t just show us how to spell and write, but it comes in many different ways to help us in the real world. It allows us to acknowledge when others try to make a fool of us.
