Animal Farm: How Does Napoleon Stay in Charge? George Orwell’s Animal Farm, is an allegory to the Russian Revolution and Joseph Stalin. An allegory is a story, painting, or sculpture with a hidden meaning. (Animal Farm Background Essay)
“Liberty may be endangered by the abuse of liberty, but also by the abuse of power”(Madison). This quote relates to Animal Farm because there came time after the Rebellion where the animals were free and ruled by just animals, but slowly everything changed. Napoleon evolved to be the leader of Animal Farm and gained a lot of power. This was the kind of power that was abused. He took advantage of the animals on the farm and destroyed their freedom.
Dystopian literature refers to a genre of fictional writing used to make a criticism about a trend, societal norm, or political system through a distorted worst-case scenario. Three examples of this genre include Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Minority Report directed by Steven Spielberg, and Animal Farm written by George Orwell. Fahrenheit 451 revolves around a society in which books are banned and the effects this law has on society. They keep this law intact through the use of firemen, hired to report to where books are found and burn them all and the novel starts as one of the firemen begins his journey through finding the truth of society. The film Minority Report holds the idea of an institution, Precrime, which can predict crime before
Humanity has struggled with dictatorship and corrupt leadership throughout all of our history. In the book “Animal Farm” by George Orwell there are two different tyrants, Napoleon and Farmer Jones who are both shown at two different stages of the book. There are many similarities between these two leaders even though they were sworn enemies. George uses this to show that no matter what political side we are on if you become extremely one way you will end up meeting the other. Napoleon and Jones both had a strong desire for money and financial gain.
“Throughout the spring and summer they worked a sixty-hour week, and in August Napoleon announced that there would be work on Sunday afternoons as well. This work
With power comes great responsibility. George Orwell is an extremely talented artist. I say artist not only because of his creative writing skills, but for the way he turns a simple story into a vivid motion picture. It isn't easy to describe a tale in such a way that it makes the reader feel as if they are present to the event; especially without using long, descriptive words that seem to create a cluttered mess of the sentences.
The narrator in this story is a young police officer. By this narrator, George Orwell was telling the narrator's view about the evil of British imperialism while they were controling the part of India. The narrator got the conflict with british empire. Those conficts were show up how badly of the british emprie did to poeple. George Orwell use the first person point of view to telling the story and blamed the British.
In Animals Farm, there is a pig who’s name Napoleon. This character did not contributed to the society with his actions. In effect, he did not respect the concept of “Animalism” which is the equality of all the animals. He did many actions that broke this conception during the entire story. At the beginning, Napoleon, take the farm with Snowball when the farmer, Mr. Jones, left.
According to a recent study, the average woman tells over 65,000 lies in their life, while the average man lies over 109,000 times. People lie every day, even young children. Most of the time, these lies are small and harmless. But sometimes, they can have detrimental consequences for both the teller of the lie and those around them. A single lie can change the course of a person’s life, whether or not they are telling it.
The genuine shooting of the elephant fills in as an ethical story for the British explorer wander in Burma. Orwell feels that it's wrong to butcher such a tremendous and wild animal. This slant addresses the fault of trying to grab an entire culture and society. Over this, shooting the elephant does not execute the elephant; comparably as policing Burmese society does not put them under the colonizer's control. Orwell puts different shots into the elephant, yet finally, he needs to leave to leak to death.
“All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.” I believe George Orwell illustrates an overlooked issue in today's society. Everyone talks about trying to create equality , yet at the same time trying to be better. We pretend we are just and fair while ignoring the cruelty and savagery in the world. Even the names of these malevolent acts has changed.
Although Napoleon the swine, as the leader and the smartest among the animals, claims to be building a society where all animals are equal, the other animals are exploited as laborers to fulfill its own desires. This theme is highlighted ironically at the end of the film, as Napoleon sells the most loyal worker, boxer, to buy himself alcohol. When contrasting the two texts, it can be seen that the animals other than the pigs play a similar role as the Handmaids. Both have been indoctrinated by the government’s propagandas to believe that they should serve the society, and both have been exploited by the authority. Therefore by illustrating the inequality in the society, not only do both texts illustrate a representation of dystopia effectively, a reflection of our own world is presented as well, as the problems of discrimination and inequality still exist
Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely” (Lord Acton) This quote is telling us that when people get into roles of absolute power they tend to become corrupt, as a result of that power. This quote can be applied to Napoleon from the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, because at the beginning of the novel Old Major’s words inspired Napoleon. As a result, he believed that humans were evil for forcing animals to work for them and that animals should be able to live freely, not under anyone’s control; however, as the story progresses his belief changed and the animals did not get to live their utopian dream. At the start Napoleon and the other pigs strongly believed that all animals were equal and had the right to live in a place that took care of their well being.
In Animal Farm, two themes were shown throughout the book. One theme was “Not everyone is equal; some people believe that they are more superior than others.” another theme was “People deserve to have their own thoughts and ideas. These were shown when Napoleon used his powers for hurt hurt not for the better of the farm. He used his powers to create a farm that is not equal for everyone.
“Animal Farm” by George Orwell, is a story to show how absolute power corrupts, just as Stalin’s power did during the Russian Revolution in 1917. In the allegory “Animal Farm” each character represents a political figure from the days around the Russian Revolution. For example, Joseph Stalin is represented by a pig named Napoleon, Squealer, another pig, represents Stalin’s propaganda department, and the dogs represent the Secret Police (KBG). Using the nine dogs that Napoleon raises (intimidation), Squealer (propaganda), and manipulation, Orwell illustrates how Napoleon was able to gain and maintain control of the farm. The nine dogs that stay by Napoleon at all times are useful for Napoleon to gain and maintain control of the farm because they scare the other animals, intimidating them so that they do not disobey Napoleon.
