“When humans act with cruelty we characterize them as ‘animals’, yet the only animal that displays cruelty is humanity,” said by Anonymous. Joseph Stalin shared the same characteristics as Napoleon from the book, “Animal Farm”, by George Orwell, showing that an animal can be a real person. When Joseph Stalin and Napoleon were elected to be leaders, they caused fear because they would eliminate anyone who got in their way, they changed the ideas of the revolution just for the benefits of themselves, and they gained power by manipulating and using their organizations to convince those among them to follow their industrial plan. For example, Napoleon killed the animals that were working for Snowball behind his back, and also because he did not like the idea that they disobeyed his rules. In the book it states, “And so the tale of confessions and executions went on, until there was a pile of corpses lying before Napoleon's feet and the air was heavy with the smell of blood, which had been unknown since the expulsion of Jones,”(Orwell, Page 84). Napoleon caused fear to the rest of the animals by showing them that if they don’t follow his rules than they would just be another corpse lying on the floor. Joseph Stalin did the same thing as Napoleon to the people he was in control of, showing that an animal can have the characteristics of a real person. Stalin used the NKVD to go around and kill those who did not want to give up their lands or corroborate with him.
