Animal Farm by George Orwell 1. The title Animal Farm represents the animals’ freedom after escaping Mr. Jones’ rule. While being led by Mr. Jones, the animals were held in a stage of slavery and had no power. They were in a position where they were living by someone else’s rules. After rebelling against the humans, the animals were able to live how they wanted. To show that they were now in power, the animals changed the name from Manor Farm to Animal Farm. This title shows how that the animals’ freedom was more significant than the humans’ rule. This is why the author called it Animal Farm instead of Manor Farm. 2. Napoleon is a flat dynamic antagonist. He has a very basic personality in the story. Napoleon is belligerent, inconsiderate, and extremely selfish. He is a dynamic character because his attitude shifted after the rebellion. In the beginning of the story, the reader didn 't see much of Napoleon 's personality because he went along with the other animals. He appeared to be opposed to humans in power. 7. There are many instances of symbolism in Animal Farm. One important symbol is Napoleon. He is a controlling, authoritative, and manipulative leader, like a dictator. Napoleon represents an absolute ruler. It is obvious to see Napoleon as a dictator when viewing the farm’s government as a tyranny. He is the main symbol of authoritarianism in the novel. Another important symbol are the dogs. They represent the military in the Animal Farm government. Napoleon orders them to kill other animals, like a president giving orders to the troops. This symbol represents the idea of authoritarianism because Napoleon has complete power over the dogs and can force them to do anything. The pigs are a symbol of social injustice. The pigs symbolize the wealthy, upper class of society. The pigs are comparable to the humans because they use the animals’ services for their own use. They don’t need to work as hard as any of the other animals, but they enjoy more benefits.
